The
Rehabilitation Centre
The Spinal Injury Rehabilitation Centre seeks
to provide patients with specialised care, support and counseling.
The patients are provided with the skills and knowledge to
remain active and able, to the best of their abilities, given
the nature of their injuries.
The centre is run by qualified caregivers, including staff
nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and health
assistants. Doctors are on standby. The centre is providing
live-in-care for thirty individuals and has plans to start
out patient department.
The facility is located at Jorpati at the outskirts of Kathmandu
city, on the road from the Baudha Stupa to the Gokarna Reserve.
It is within the quiet campus of institutions providing care
and support. These include an orthopaedic hospital, an orphanage
for disabled children, and a residential centre for the disabled.
The Rehabilitation Centre operates through the funds raised
by the Spinal Injury Sangha Nepal. A modest charge based on
a sliding scale is asked of those patients who can afford
it. A limit is placed on the length of stay for patients in
order to allow space for others in need.
