Prior to his injury, Dhananjaya was a student, and lived with his mother and brothers- the middle of which is the main provider for the family. One day, while cutting grass, he fell from a cliff and remained unconscious for more than two days. He was referred to the centre by the Nepal Orthopaedic Hospital, who also applied a Halo Brace.

While at the centre, Dhananjaya received training in making bags. Upon his discharge on 27/1/2006, Dhananjaya was able to write and control his bowels, and was released in a wheelchair.
