Support SIRC, Sponsor a Patient

The majority of SIRC's patients come from impoverished backgrounds and their spinal injures tend to exacerbate their already strained economic situation. As a result, most patients are unable to afford the rehabilitation services. SIRC being a nonprofit organization that relies predominantly on donor funding to operate is often unable to support all of our economically disadvantaged patients. For this reason, we are always seeking organizations and individuals interested in sponsoring patients at the Centre.

  • The projected cost of running SIRC for 2009 is NRs. 13,400,000 (USD 194203 / £ 134,000).
  • The average length of stay for a patient at SIRC is 3 months. Thereby, approximately 130 patients stay at SIRC annually.
  • The cost for each patient is approximately NRs. 103076.92 (USD 1494/ £ 1031).
  • This cost will cover a patient's board, food, therapy expenses, medical care, counseling, vocational training and necessary devices such as wheelchairs, splints, walking aids, etc.

Due to the patient's poor financial situation, SIRC located a sponsor for him, so that he able to undergo rehabilitation at the Centre for two complete months. In addition to the rehabilitation, Nakal along with his wife, were both able to receive sewing classes through the Centre's vocational training program. During the course of his stay at SIRC, Nakal's depression lifted and he became motivated to make a change in his life. Upon his departure from SIRC, Nakal was wheelchair mobile and in better health with his urine infection, fever and pressure sores all treated by the Centre's nursing department.
