Support SIRC, Sponsor a Bed

The majority of SIRC's patients come from impoverished backgrounds and their spinal injures tend to exacerbate their already strained economic situation. As a result, most patients are unable to afford the rehabilitation services. SIRC being a nonprofit organization that relies predominantly on donor funding to operate is often unable to support all of our economically disadvantaged patients. For this reason, we are always seeking organizations and individuals interested in sponsoring patients at the Centre.

  • The projected cost of running SIRC for 2009 is NRs. 13,400,000 (USD 194203 / £ 134,000).
  • The average length of stay for a patient at SIRC is 3 months. Thereby, sponsoring a bed for a year provides full financial support for an average of 4 patients a year.
  • The annual cost of caring for 3-4 patients per bed at the Centre is NRs. 343,589.74 (USD 4,979.56 / £ 3,435.90).
  • This cost will cover a patient's board, food, therapy expenses, medical care, counseling, vocational training and necessary devices such as wheelchairs, splints, walking aids, etc.
Sponsorship Will Help Patients Like Uma Devi Magar:

Uma Devi Magar Name: Uma Devi Magar
Age/Sex: 21/Female
Marital Status: Unmarried
Address: Ramechhap
Date of injury: 22/01/2007
Type of Injury: Dislocation fracture C6-7 with complete quadriplegia Cause of Injury: Fell from a tree while collecting fodder for cattle

Uma was admitted to SIRC on 5 February 2008. Prior to her injury she worked as a farmer alongside her family. Upon her arrival she was unable to move both her upper and lower limbs and had no bladder and bowel control. Due to her poor financial situation, SIRC located a sponsor who provided for her entire rehabilitation program at the Centre. While undergoing rehabilitation, Uma and her sister both received vocational training in sewing. After 128 days at SIRC, Uma completed her rehabilitation program and in doing so she has regained some hand function and mobility, has training on bladder and bowel movements, and can also sit and propel her wheelchair independently. Despite her injury, Uma always had a smile on her face and remained positive. With this optimism, Uma hopes to utilize her vocational training skills and with the support from her sister, open a sewing shop in her village.
