Our Work

SIRC takes a holistic approach to rehabilitation so as to achieve a successful integration of the patients back into their communities. Therefore, SIRC employs a multidisciplinary team led by a medical doctor, and comprised of a nursing department, a physiotherapy department, an occupational therapy department, and a social services department which includes a wheelchair service department and a vocational training department.

Financial Assistance

SIRC is a charitable foundation and provides its rehabilitation services for a modest fee of NRs. 150 (USD 2.27); this fee includes bed charge, physiotherapy, and occupational therapy, counseling, recreation, and vocational training. However, as the majority of our patients come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds the seemingly minimal fee of NRs. 150 is unaffordable to them. To determine which patients require financial assistance and to what degree, the Social Service Department conducts a thorough financial assessment. Consequently, the Centre provides financial assistance based on a sliding scale. For the majority of our patients the rehabilitation services are heavily discounted or provided gratis.

Caregivers

To augment the rehabilitation services provided by SIRC, the Centre strongly encourages each patient to have a family member present throughout the duration of the patient's rehabilitation. Family members as caregivers are very important to the patient's progress as it is a means of ensuring rehabilitation even after the patient leaves the Centre. At SIRC, we encourage caregivers to observe and participate in the therapies, outings, and nursing and other educational sessions. Caregivers are also encouraged to study educational materials available at the Centre. By educating/training the caregivers alongside the patients, the objective is for caregivers to supplement the patient's rehabilitation both at SIRC and at home.
