Before his injury, Bharat worked in Nepal Rastra Bank, and lived with his wife, son, and daughter. He was admitted to the centre on June 26th, 2005 after his operation at B&B Hospital. When received, he could not move his extremities, and did not have bowel or bladder control However, while at the centre he received candle vocational training as well as physiotherapy and occupational therapy. When released, Bharat could walk without aids, and was able to return to his work at Nepal Rastra Bank.

Cause of Injury: Fall from Balcony
Bhishma , a 21 year old student, the only son of a family of 5 children living in the Terrai region, fell from a balcony in his home. He remained unconscious and was transferred to Dharan hospital where he remained in traction receiving conservative treatment. On referral to SIRC in October 2006 he received an effective rehabilitation programme which included counselling and help when he realised that the best person to help him back to as normal a life as possible was himself.

Type of Injury: Paraplegia with no fracture
Cause of Injury: Injured by a missile
Bikash was a soldier in the People's Liberation Army (PLA-Maoist army) and while fighting against the Nepal Army in Nawalparasi he was injured by a missile. Bikash was admitted to SIRC on September 7, 2006. Upon his arrival he had no bladder and bowel control, had a urinary tract infection (relied on a Foley catheter), and his lower limbs did not work. His injury had rendered him depressed. After his stay at SIRC, his urinary tract infection was treated, he had training on bladder and bowel control, and was wheelchair mobile. Furthermore, his rehabilitation program at the Centre proved to have lifted his depression as towards the end of the program he became very motivated and active. After his discharge, he returned to the PLA camp in Nawalparasi with his wife.

Meena Shrestha

Meena Meena fell from a bridge after she was hit by a mini bus. She was brought to the SIRC one month after her accident. At the time of her admission, she had a urine infection, lacerated wound, and was not able to move her lower limbs. She was treated conservatively, and was discharged after 46 days with full knowledge about the complications after spinal cord injuries. She could walk. Meena was a housewife, and was happy to return to her household chores again.
