"Helping People Help Themselves"
The aim of Occupational Therapy (OT) is to help the patients carry out the Activities of Daily Living (ADL). "Occupation" here refers to everything that individuals have to do from brushing their teeth to cooking their meals, from opening the soap case to managing their house. OT works with the spinally injured in assisting them in adapting to the new challenges of daily life. Therefore, to increase the patient's independence through adaptive skills, OT focuses on functional development. At SIRC, the OT Department uses a wide range of adaptive techniques and technologies including hand therapy, play therapy, and adoptive and assistive devices to allow patients to manipulate their surroundings for their independence. The OT department also does general splinting, balance training, wheelchair training, bed mobility, and coordination treatments. The therapy from this department enables patients to meet conduct daily activities such as dressing oneself, bathing, eating, wheelchair skills, grooming, etc.
