Our Work

SIRC takes a holistic approach to rehabilitation so as to achieve a successful integration of the patients back into their communities. Therefore, SIRC employs a multidisciplinary team led by a medical doctor, and comprised of a nursing department, a physiotherapy department, an occupational therapy department, and a social services department which includes a wheelchair service department and a vocational training department.
Financial Assistance

Spinal Centre Nepal is a charitable foundation providing optimal rehabilitative care at reasonable costs. This can actually only be achieved through a partial or total sponsoring of the treatment.

Regular Nepalese Patients pay a modest fee for all services (bed charge, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, counselling, recreation, vocational training and follow up).

To determine which patients require financial assistance and to what degree, the Social Service Department conducts a thorough financial assessment.

Consequently, the Centre provides financial assistance based on a sliding scale. For the majority of our patients the rehabilitation services are heavily discounted or provided gratis.

However, the majority of our patients come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. At the time they reach the Spinal Centre Nepal, the costs of medical emergency assistance and transport, as well as the costs of spinal surgery have already put a burden on the whole family. Most patients cannot afford any further treatment costs.

Caregivers
To augment the rehabilitation services provided by SIRC, the Centre strongly encourages each patient to have a family member present throughout the duration of the patient's rehabilitation. Family members as caregivers are very important to the patient's progress as it is a means of ensuring rehabilitation even after the patient leaves the Centre.
At SIRC, we encourage caregivers to observe and participate in the therapies, outings, and nursing and other educational sessions. Caregivers are also encouraged to study educational materials available at the Centre. By educating/training the caregivers alongside the patients, the objective is for caregivers to supplement the patient's rehabilitation both at SIRC and at home.
