Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy is an essential component of rehabilitation at the Spinal Center with all patients admitted to the Centre attending daily one-on-one sessions as well as group sessions. This past fiscal year of the 115 patients, 90 patients were able to gain maximum functional outcome at the time of their discharge.Of the 90 patients, 21 were able to walk either independently or employing an assistive device; while the remaining were wheelchair mobile. Of the remaining 25 patients, 4 were referred to another hospital facility for further management while 21 left the Centre prior to completing their rehabilitation against the advice of the Centers medical/rehabilitation team.
The Physiotherapy Department is an important component of the rehabilitation program at the Center. This department's aim is to enable patients to regain their physical movement and function as much as possible. As each patient's physical abilities and challenges are different, each one receives an individualized treatment plan. This plan is created by the department's physiotherapist after a complete assessment of the patient upon admission.Treatment often includes a diverse range of activities including manual therapy, balance training, functional training, hydrotherapy, exercise and electrotherapy. In addition, the Physiotherapy Department also educates patients and their caregivers about wheelchair skills
